Charles Frederick de Brocktorff (1775-1850) settled in Malta in 1810, having had a military career with the army of the Electorate of Hanover that included fighting in the Napoleonic wars. A career change saw Brocktorff open an art studio in Valletta, and set about producing numerous beautiful watercolours of the views, buildings and people of Malta, capturing the allure the islands had for the tourists of the day – frequently Brocktorff’s customers.

This talk will be a chance to learn more about Brocktorff and his work, and see some of his stunning artworks on paper, not normally on display.
