Pharmacy Jar

The Knights Hospitaller, as the Order was also known, were so called due to their role in caring for the sick.  Jars similar to this example, were used by the Order in its hospitals to store medical ingredients.   The raw ingredients would be mixed by hand to create medicines for treating patients.
