This plaster model is reproduced from a death mask, reputedly cast from the face of an unknown woman who drowned in the river Seine in Paris, in the late 19^th century. The cast was mass produced in the 20^th century, and in 1958, the face was used in the prototype “Resusci-Annie” mannequin, manufactured by Peter Safar and Asmund Laerdal. Since its introduction, “Resusci-Annie” has been crucial to the First Aid training provided by St John Ambulance.
