Maltese Coffee and Culture

Museum of the Order of St John

From 11am until 12.30pm enjoy a delicious Maltese coffee, a dainty pastry and the chance to learn more about the fascinating stories behind some of the Museum’s rare coins.

At 12.30pm Collections Volunteer Jack Hanson will speak about the coins of the Grand Masters in Malta, which highlight the changing fortunes of the Order of St John on the Island.  Following the talk, Jack will be on hand to answer questions, and speak with visitors as they have the chance to explore and handle these pieces of history first hand.

In the summer of 2017, Jack was placed with the Museum on a British Numismatic Society bursary.  Being given free access to a Museum’s collection was a dream for history student Jack, particularly due to his interest in coinage. The Museum’s extensive coin collection gave him plenty to research, and as a consequence Jack is ideally placed to speak about the coin collection.
