Audio Descriptive Talk and Tea: Henry VIII’s Bronze Cannon

Museum of the Order of St John

Join us for a series of descriptive talks and object handling exploring key objects from the Museum’s collection. These free events are for blind and partially-sighted visitors and their companions. Tea and biscuits provided.

This month the talk tells the fascinating story of a sixteenth-century bronze cannon that King Henry VIII presented as a diplomatic gift to the Grand Master of the Order, Philippe Villiers de L’Isle-Adam in 1529. The cannon has had an interesting journey before it was presented to the Museum, including more than 300 years on the sea bed. The session will include the opportunity to handle cannon balls used at the siege of Rhodes in 1522. Our guides have all been trained by VocalEyes.

This is a free ticketed event and takes place in the Museum Galleries which have step-free access throughout. For more information on getting to the Museum and our facilities please visit the Access Page on our website or call us on 020 7324 4005. Lines are monitored Wednesday – Saturday 10am – 5pm.
