Museum Talk and Tea: Disorderly Conduct

Museum of the Order of St John

Join us for a 10-minute talk and discover more about the Order of St John, St John’s Gate, or the history of the local area, before enjoying a cup of tea and an opportunity for an informal chat with members of the Museum team.

Disorderly Conduct: The Order of St John in Henry VIII’s Reign

In April 1540, King Henry VIII signed a warrant to seize the Order of St John’s English headquarters in Clerkenwell, making it all but extinct. He is now remembered as a villain in the Order’s history, but is the full story really all that simple?

Join us in June to hear the real history of Henry’s links to the Order of St John: a bloody tale of betrayal, bloodshed and political scheming whose consequences were felt all across Europe.

Museum Talk and Tea takes place on the second Wednesday of each month. All are welcome.
