A formal, black and white photograph showing four rows of St John Ambulance volunteers. In the foreground they are sat on the floor and at the back they are standing, possibly on benches. The majority of people photographed are John Ambulance Nursing Cadets wearing grey, button up dresses with white collars and traditional white nursing caps. Seated in the centre is a woman in a matron's uniform, and either side of her sit two women wearing Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse uniforms. At the back of the photograph in the centre are six Boy Cadets wearing black berets, grey shirts and white sashes which run from the right shoulder down to their waist on the left. .
