Donations have been vitally important in the development of our fascinating and important collections. We continue to welcome such generous offers of items for the collection, but we are not always able to accept everything that is offered to us. To join the collection, items must align with an area identified as a priority for collecting in our Collections Development Policy, and usually not be a duplicate of something already in the collection.
If you have any items – objects, archives, or books – that you would like to donate to the Museum, please send an email with the following information to museum@sja.org.uk
- Clear images of the item(s) – front, back, and any close-ups of interesting and distinguishing details
- A list of all the items you would like to donate. We’re looking for key information such as a title or brief description, dates, and inscriptions
- Details of any people linked to the item(s)
- Details of any places or locations linked to the item(s)
- How the item(s) came into your possession
- If the item(s) are in good condition, and if not, what the issues are. Please feel free to include photographs of any damage or areas of poor condition; they will not be the only determinate on whether we can accept it into the collection or not.
Please note that we are unable to provide valuations of objects.
