According to the report for the week of 2nd to 9th August, the Hospital received two convoys (one on 5th and one on 7th), 211 patients in total, many of whom were severely wounded. Colonel Trimble has also been advised that 15 bales of hospital clothing are on route from New Zealand, but he notes that whilst appreciated, they do already have an abundance of socks – 3000 in total. On Saturday 5th August the Hospital was visited by Colonel Carr, Director of Medical Services in France who, expressed his satisfaction with the Hospital’s performance despite the additional pressure caused by the Battle of the Somme. Attached to this report is an expression of Colonel Carr’s thanks.

My Lord,
I beg to submit herewith a brief report in connec-
tion with the work of the Hospital from the 2nd to the 8th inst,
We received two convoys during the week, one on
the 5th of a total of 93, and the second received on the 7th
was composed of 28 sick and 90 wounded, a total of 118.
As is usually the case many of these men were severely
wounded, quite a number of them requiring immediate surgical
attention.
We have been evacuating pretty rapidly, and Colonel
Carr, C.B. D.D.M.S., has expressed to me his satisfaction with
regard to the clearing of the Hospital.
I have received an advice letter from New Zealand
telling me that 15 bales of hospital clothing, etc. have been
forwarded to me. This is a most valuable gift but it is to
be regretted that many of the articles included we at present
stock. I more particularly allude to socks of which we have
about three thousand pairs at present.
Sir Arthur Sloggett, K.C.S. C.M.G. D.M.S. accompanied
by Colonel Carr, C.B. D.D.M.S. visited the Hospital on Saturday
the 5th inst. One of the objects of the visit of the Director

of Medical Services in France was to express to us his satis-
faction with the work preferred by the Hospital during the
pressure occasioned by the offensive undertaken by the British
on end after 1st July. He requested me to make this known to
all serving in the Hospital. I enclose a copy of the order
issued by me to give effect to his wishes.
Miss Chaplin who came along with Colonel Carr on
the 7th inst. Seems to have seen some considerable active service
in Serbia. She thoroughly understands what she is talking
about with regard to Hospital management, and I believe she is
herself a Trained Nurse. I think she was very gratified and
rather surprised with what she saw during her visit.
Nurse D. Wilson, V.A.D has gone home to Dublin
on leave. She had a troublesome septic finger which necessi-
tated the removal of the nail. I think the fact of sending her
home and giving her a rest for a short time will enable her
to return again to the Hospital. She is an excellent worker and
is most useful in the wards so I am very anxious to keep her.
The health of the personnel is quite satisfactory.
At the present time of the Provisional Company of the R.A.M. C.
only two are in Hospital and I trust they will soon be in a
condition to be discharged.

I do not think there is anything further of interest to report.
I have the honour to be,
Your Lordship`s Obedient Servant,
(Sgd) Charles J. Trimble
