The Museum of the Order of St John offers one of London’s most extraordinary filming locations. Four distinct time periods in a single site in the heart of Clerkenwell, just five minutes from Farringdon station. A Norman Crypt, a 16th century Priory Church, an Edwardian Chapter Hall and a walled Cloister Garden, all available for your production.
A location steeped in history
Thirty of Shakespeare’s plays were licensed in this very building by the Master of the Revels. William Hogarth’s father ran a Latin-speaking coffee house here. Dr Samuel Johnson was connected to the Gentleman’s Magazine, the UK’s first ever magazine, which was produced in these rooms. No other filming location in London carries a story like this one.

Practical information
We can accommodate large scale film crews of up to 150 people. The museum is open to the public Wednesday to Saturday, 09:30 to 17:00, but we are flexible about scheduling and available for full site hire on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.
